December 8-13 - Another Friday 13th!

Only one week left before the holiday break and we keep on working and working!
This week we studied many good things.

We mailed our letters to Santa Claus. Fingers crossed everyone is on the Good List this year! :)

We worked hard on making our cards and gifts for our parents. Only a little more paint and we're DONE! It's well worth it! Just you wait and see! Everyone is very excited!

We decorated little Christmas trees and wrote about them in French.

We even got invited by the Heritage Retirement Home to come and sing to the residents next Monday. That means we had to practice our carols. (And still practice them this weekend! Here are the songs we plan on singing (youtube.com has great videos for these songs along with the lyrics):

- Frosty the Snowman
- Mr Grinch
- Oh Christmas Tree
- Quand le Pere Noel vient me visiter
- We wish you a Merry Christmas
- Jingle Bells
- Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer
- Deck The Halls

Since we're practicing those songs, might as well practice our Winter Concert song too.

December 2 - December 6

Well, another week has come and gone. My! My! We have been busy!
This week we wrote to Santa. We composed our letters and they are ready to go! Now if we can just find the time to address our letter. :S

We also learned new holiday vocabulary in French, in particular pieces in a Christmas Tree. Dans un sapin de Noel, il y a des grelots (bells), des guirlandes (garland), des lumieres (lights), des etoiles (stars), des boules de Noel (ball ornaments), des decorations (decorations), and many more. (See Vocabulary section for pronunciation and pictures) ** VOCABULARY SECTION WILL NOT BE UPDATED UNTIL NEXT WEEK** (my iPad died-where the video is stored-and my recharging cord is at school.)

We also had 3 assemblies this week. On Tuesday, we had the Minister of Education and a few MLA's come to our school for an announcement. On Wednesday, we had Take Pride, Winnipeg! come and present us with a bench! That's right! We collected more than 31,000 plastic bags during the Bags Up, Winnipeg campaign and earned 2 bird houses and a bench all made with plastic bags. Then on Friday afternoon, the Kindergarten classes presented their monthly assembly. At this last assembly, 4 of our very own, Pauline, Declan, Benjamin and Sydney were recognized for speaking well in French and being a good friend. Congratulations!!!

On Friday, we got together with Mme Kirk's class across the hall and made 2 different art projects to celebrate Diwali (a celebration of lights) for the up-coming Winter Concert. We made Rangoli, typically rangoli is made on the ground using coloured rice flour, but we made our designs on cardboard using glue and coloured rice. We also decorated elephants with jewelled stickers and lots and lots of glitter. How our art is beautiful!

**PICTURES TO COME! Once iPad recharged!**

First Day Back!!

Wow! What a day? It was SO nice to see everyone today at school and ready to go! We spent much of the day going over class expectations and even expectations of Mme. We started discussing some of our class routines.

We talked about respect and we even did a sheet about what we did this summer.
I am VERY excited that we have a wonderful mix of people in our class. We have artists and great spellers! I know this is going to be a great year. Well done to everyone! Fantastic first day!
